THE STUBBORN WOMAN
The play by one of the most prominent Kutná Hora natives, Josef Kajetán Tyl, The Stubborn Woman, belongs to the golden fund of Czech theater production from the second half of the 19th century. The story of the miller Jahelková, daughter of Terezka, and her suitor, the teacher's assistant Pěnkava, is set in the Krkonoše Mountains, ruled by the mysterious figure of Rýbrcoul, or Krakonoš. And it is he who helps two young people to fulfill their mutual love when he uses his magic to overcome the stubbornness of the miller, whose life experience rejects the idea of a loving and sincere relationship between Terezka and Pěnkava.
Kutná Hora Hora TYL, z.s. has staged Tyl's Stubborn Woman a total of 4 times since its founding in 1843: in 1953, 1975, 1976 and 2013.
