Ewa Beata Białecka. Ave Eva, paintings
BEATA EWA BIAŁECKA, born in 1966 in Mikołów, Poland, graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, where she studied at prof. Jerzy Nowosielski's studio. She received several prestigious awards throughout her career, including the Gold Badge of Primus Inter Pares from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków (1992) and nominations for the Polityka Magazine's Passport in category Visual Arts (2007) and the Sovereign European Art Prize (2008). Stipendist of Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (1999), Mayor of Gdańsk (2005, 2018) and Marshall of Pomeranian Voivodeship (2006, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2018)
In her artwork, Białecka focuses on the representation of women, often through reinterpretations of Christian iconography. Her subjects include modernized depictions of the Pietà, Lamentations, Magdalene. Through these works, she emphasizes the spiritual and physical power of women, particularly within matrilineal traditions, presenting women as strong, sensual, and self-assured. Her figures are shown engaged in rituals, prayer, contemplation, and celebration, asserting their autonomy and divine connection. Białecka's figures are self-assured, full of life, sensual, but not flirtatious. Their representation is not addressed to the masculine spectator's eye, to that dominant category of the male gaze in European painting. They focus on themselves and their closest family members, they are strong, fulfilled and happy.
This exhibition is part of the official celebrations marking the 30th anniversary of Kutná Hora's inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, underscoring the significance of Białecka's work both in the Polish and international art scene.
